Hydroacoustic Solutions at Oceanology International

Oceanology International 2004 , the world's largest Ocean Technology event will play host to Simrad 's highly developed range of professional echosounder technology on Stand 243. In addition Simrad in the UK will be focusing on a sophisticated new seafloor mapping system - the Olex 3D chart system.

Simrad has been designing advanced echosounders for fishery research since 1960.

The company presently offers two models to the scientific community, the EK60 and the EY60. Both models use enclosed split-beam transducers as standard making it possible to determine the position of any detected target within the acoustic beam, and to correct the echoes for beam effects.

The EK60 is designed for permanent installation onboard research vessels. Based on high specification PC processing and Windows operation, this powerful scientific tool provides facilities for accurate echosounding, data storage, data analysis and reporting results. The EK60 boasts many unique features including simple onboard calibration, multi frequency combination echograms, comparable sample volumes, data server interface, on-line/ off-line processing, low noise, high ping rate and raw data recording. The EK60 also benefits from user friendly operation, the facility to save and load personal user configurations and remote control operation.

The EY60 is a portable version of the EK60 designed for outdoor use in lakes and rivers. It possesses many of the same high-end features of the EK60 but can be run using the power from a single car battery.

Olex is a software application that combines chart data, seafloor data, plotter objects and radar targets in an easy to comprehend display that features various 2D and 3D views. Its bottom mapping capabilities are excellent with many features enhanced when connected to Simrad echosounders.

Using a Simrad EK60, ES60 or EQ60 echosounder, Olex is able to provide seabed hardness mapping. The system analyses the bottom echo, taking into account parameters such as pulse length, beam width and transducer type. Olex can display bottom hardness in tandem with present and historic echosounder data. There is also a multibeam echosounder software package available, which enables the live multibeam data to be viewed instantaneously.
