Buoys Zoned In with Bespoke AIS
01 Feb 2004
Tideland Maritime Systems has introduced a new AIS designed specifically for installation on aids to navigation, including buoys, beacons, light ships and light houses. 'V-track' is capable of full integration into port or coastal AIS networks.
The new unit will broadcast its name, type and MMSI number, virtual target flag and warning if it goes off station (in the case of a buoy). This information can be received by all AIS-fitted vessels as well as land stations and will be displayed graphically and in real time on any AIS-enabled electronic chart or radar screen.
The unit can be fully integrated into the NavLink remote monitoring and control system or a Tideland AIS coastal or port network.
The V-track unit is capable of remote monitoring and uses less than 2 Ah/day when broadcasting at the IALArecommended rate, making it highly suitable for solar powered navaids. Range is up to 5 nm depending on the height of the antenna. It can be used for marking tracks, routes, areas and limits, including traffic separation schemes and for identifying offshore structures such as wind farms or oil/gas installations. V-track will provide data on weather, tides and sea states when integrated to suitable sensors.
The unit is supplied in a rugged, compact housing which is waterproof and suitable for use on any aid to navigation.
Optimum efficiency is achieved when linked to Tideland's MicroPower Omnibus II flasher lampchanger, but V-track is equally compatible with other manufacturers' equipment once an appropriate integration system has been fitted. V-track is fully compliant with the RM 1371-1 specification published by the ITU.
Tideland's recently launched SB-98P shallow water polyethylene buoy is one of the company's products that could accept V-track.
The new multi-purpose buoy is particularly suited to shallow water areas, rivers and estuaries.
The SB-98P is offered with the full range of IALA-recommended topmarks rotationally moulded in the same polyethylene material as the hull
