Marina Gets to Grips with New Decking

Sileby Marina in Leicestershire UK has chosen the new fibreglass non slip decking product, DeckGrip from FibreGrid Limited , as a replacement to their old timber decking boards.

DeckGrip, is constructed using polyester resins and fibreglass reinforcements and is resistant to stretching, warping or swelling over a wide range of temperatures and physical stresses. Being inert, an added benefit is that it will not support algae or indeed any other life form. Its integral carbon and silicone grit surface provides excellent slip resistance in most conditions and was the major factor in the decision to replace the existing rotting timber decks on the ten jetties around the marina.

Following the removal of the old timber decking, DeckGrip panels were mechanically fixed to the existing support structures.

The panels were supplied at a height of 25mm, this allowed for a clear span of 750mm between supports. DeckGrip is available up to 40mm in height, which allows for a clear span between structures of up to 1350mm due to the increased support legs. This is a unique feature to the product and generally is not available with other composite or timber materials.

The installation, amounting to close to 100m 2, was completed in just two days and by following a well thought out installation plan, the disruption to the boat owners was kept to a minimum.

Whilst the Sileby Marina installation was quite a small job, DeckGrip's unique construction means that even the largest of marinas will not prove a problem for DeckGrip panels.

'The installation of DeckGrip has made a huge difference to Sileby Marina. They have got a decking that will never need replacing, a lifetime guarantee and a slip resistant surface that will deal with the health and safety issues normally impossible to address satisfactorily with traditional timber decking' said FibreGrid spokesman Scott Cousin.
