Innovative Dredging Project Improves Access

Chichester Marina in the UK has confirmed that it has completed an innovative dredging project designed to improve access to the marina by deeper drafted boats.
In a recent statement, Premier Marinas, which owns Chichester Marina, said the dredging project would mean that boat owners can enjoy more time on the water.
Until now, sediment dredged from the marina has been disposed of at a licensed dumping site outside the harbour, thus removing environmentally valuable material from the area.
In the newly completed project, however, fine mud from the approach channel was dumped at the entrance to the harbour, to allow the fast flowing tides in the area to re-distribute it, providing benefits for flora and fauna in the harbour area.
Premier Marinas says it believes that this technique will also reduce the time it takes to dredge the marina and reduce costs.
