Follow That Diver With Easytrak

Applied Acoustic Engineering of Great Yarmouth UK has launched a new ultra-short baseline (USBL) tracking system which it designed as an economical solution for tracking a variety of underwater targets including ROVs, towfish and divers.

Complimenting the company's existing range of acoustic positioning equipment, Easytrak is compatible with all of Applied Acoustic's transponders, with the added versatility of being able to track most other makes. Easytrak has 94 pre-programmed standard frequencies and the facility to set up an additional 4 user defined channels. A built in pitch, roll and heading sensor has been added for automatic position compensation and there is the facility to connect external sensors such as a gyro or vertical reference unit should a higher level of accuracy be required. A further serial port allows the reception of GPS data for on-screen UTM co-ordinates.

Two versions of Easytrak are available. Easytrak portable is an all-inclusive system and is supplied with one of the company's 219 micro transponders which, at only 230 mm in length and weighing 260g in water, is ideal for diver tracking. Easytrak Lite connects to a user's own laptop or desktop PC with software supplied on CD. Powered by an AC electrical supply or its own internal battery pack, Easytrak's high degree of portability makes it a suitable choice for for marine archaeology, salvage, and data retrieval. Its ease of use suits inexperienced operators while an innovative transducer design promotes rapid deployment for a true 'plug and play' system.
