Corrosion Meets Its Match at

Cathodic protection equipment and solution suppliers MGDuff International Ltd travel to seawork2004 from their West Sussex UK base to announce their latest weapon against marine corrosion.

Drawing upon 50 years of experience, MGDuff has developed 'Zingard', a one component cold-applied liquid zinc application which delivers all the benefits of galvanising and hot zinc spraying or dipping straight out of a can.

Not a zinc enriched coating, Zingard is like a liquid anode that can be applied directly to prepared steelwork by brush, roller or spray. The zinc particles in Zingard electrochemically bond to the steel surface creating a layer of zinc which is 96% pure when dry. The particles form a passive barrier at the surface of the steel that resists corrosion above and below the waterline.

This zinc barrier is also anodic to the steel structure and will provide cathodic protection to steelwork exposed by mechanical damage.

Zingard is much more tolerant of moisture during application than conventional coatings, which can significantly reduce installation time. Unlike traditional zinc spraying or galvanising, Zingard does not require an etch primer or acid wash before applying topcoats. It can be 'reloaded' after years of service by simply applying new layers.

Zingard is non-toxic and certified for use in potable water tanks. It carries DNV approval for use in ballast tanks, resolving the difficult issue of protecting tank top spaces from corrosion. The product also has good non-slip properties and thus performs double duties as a deck coating while also protecting deck equipment and superstructures prone to impacts and abrasion.

MGDuff supplies Zingard direct to customers and will also undertake a preparation and application service for projects as well as managing larger turnkey contracts.
