New Octopus Heave Processing
01 Mar 2004
Octopus iHeave , a new processing suite for long-period ocean swell compensation, is available from Coda Octopus of Deddington for free integration with its Octopus F180 precision attitude and positioning system.
Conventional techniques for real-time heave measurement, the company says, can provide only limited accuracy and are insensitive to ocean swells exceeding 10-20 seconds.
But analysis of raw motion data with iHeave permits a more accurate determination of real heave motion experienced by a vessel and enables output of precise heave values for all ocean swells.
Operating in near real-time, iHeave can process F180 data online, resulting in a processed heave file being ready for inclusion in multibeam bathymetric data only a few minutes after completion of a survey line. In conventional heave scenarios, where long-period heave is not a significant problem, the facility is also able to generate higher accuracy data than is possible in real-time.
