New Admiralty ECDIS Service Due December
01 Oct 2004
The UK Hydrographic Office is to launch its new Admiralty ECDIS service in December.
Developed to help shipping companies meet Solas carriage requirements for ECDIS, the service combines use of available official Electronic Navigation Charts (ENCs) with Admiralty Raster Charts (ARCs) to provide extensive, seamless digital navigation support.
The UKHO says that the service will be the first ECDIS solution to provide the IMO-approved combination of ENCs and ARCs as a single package, making it easier for customers to benefit from ECDIS while ENC coverage is growing. Charts are bundled into pre-set folios for ease of purchase, with three folio size for each geographic area. A Full folio provides all coverage within a given area while the Standard version contains coverage of major ports and trade routes for vessels operating in a specific area; a Transit folio features coverage for safe transit, including principal ports, primary routes, bunkering ports and those of refuge.
Once available, new ENCs will be automatically added to relevant folios free of charge with all ENC and ARCs charts being continuously updated also without charge via the Admiralty weekly update service. Further information, including pricing, will be available from Admiralty Chart agents in November.
