Sturmmowe is the last of a series of seven such vessels, which are designed for servicing navigation buoys, hydrographic duties, surveillance and hydraulic construction. The variety of tasks being asked of this sophisticated workhorse has demanded good seagoing performance, stability and manoeuvrability as well as an optimal aft working deck which on Sturmmowe boasts a respectable 48m 2of clear space.

Other special features include an MKG Type HMC 300a hydraulic crane with an operating radius of 10.2 m, a Fassmer PU fender system and a control console with optimal visibility.

The newbuilding was commissioned by the German Transport Ministry. The vessel was named in Wismar and will be stationed there for operation in the North Sea and Baltic, but its owner is the Wasser und Schiffahrtsamt in Lubeck. It is the last of a series of seven such boats developed and delivered by Fassmer over the past six years and follows Wulf Isebrand last year.

With a 6m beam the Sturmmowe draws 1.43 m and displaces 89 tons.

It is classified GL+100 A5K (50) E GL+MCE. Speed is put at 9.3 knots in the specifications and range at 950 nautical miles, but reports said 10 knots were achievable.

The boat's hull is of steel, the superstructure of aluminium and the wheelhouse, which is for single man operation, is of marine aluminium. Propulsion is provided by a main engine from MTU Type 6 R 183 TE 62 of 275kW and 1850revs/m. The fixed propeller is 900 mm diameter Piening 729 1/min unit and the bow thruster is a Type T 49/122/290 from Herion.

Sturmmowe has accommodation for a crew of four.
