Bravo for Fast Ferries

The Bravo engine series, the result of co-operation between Caterpillar and Spain's Izar Propulsion and Energy Motores , has made the leap from naval to commercial vessel installation with a contract for four Izar Bravo 18 propulsion engines to be installed in a fast ferry that will operate in Greece.

The engines, producing 7,200kW of power at 1,050rpm, will be installed in the 40 knot fast ferry for passengers and vehicles being built at the Austal shipyard in Australia.

The Izar Propulsion and Energy Motores factory at Cartagena is currently building Bravo engines for naval vessels such as the Fridtjof Nansen class frigates for the Royal Norwegian Navy and new patrol vessels for the Malaysian Royal Navy.
