    Smit Take Over Smit Panama and Increases Damen Order

    Smit Harbour Towage has taken delivery of the first of a series of three new shiphandling tugs to be deployed in Panama. The first vessel, appropriately named Smit Panama , is one of two compact stern-drive tugs ordered from Damen Shipyards atGorinchem in April of this year. Shortly after Smit Panama was delivered in August the order was increased by one further vessel. 

    The First of a New Breed From UNV

    The busy Spanish shipyard of Union Naval Valencia SA has delivered the first two tugs of their new UNV 265 SD series. 

    TOWLINES

    The ABR Company Ltd hasannounced that the 19th Tug & Salvage Convention , ITS 2006 , will be held in Rotterdam from 24-28 April 2006. Final arrangements regarding the actual venue still have to be finalised but are expected to be announced shortly. The deadline for the submission of papers for ITS 2006 is 1 March, 2005. 

    'Vanguard' declared a Total Loss

    The British coastal tug Vanguard , owned and operated by Mersey based Carmet Tugs Ltd , has been declared a total loss after sinking off the Isle of Skye. 

    Adsteam Order First Compact Damen ASD 2411 Tugs for Use in Europe

    As part of a phased programme to upgrade its fleet in Britain Adsteam has placed an order with Damen Shipyards to build three new ASD 2411 tugs. 

    Kooren Shipbuilding Take up Rotor Tug Options

    Rotterdam based Kooren Shipbuilding and Trading BV , a subsidiary of Kotug , has exercised their options with the ASL Shipyard Pte Ltd inSingapore to build a further pair of their unique 'Rotor' tugs. Earlier in the year, the company placed an order with the yard for two 28.30m long vessels, with an anticipated bollard pull of over 63 tonnes.
