SMM Launch for New Bilge Alarm
01 Sep 2004
Redhill UK based oil in water monitor specialist manufacturers Rivertrace Engineering will be launching the new Rivertrace 'Smart Cell' bilge alarm at SMM 2004 in Hamburg this month. Smart Cell will meet the requirements of the latest IMO regulation MEPC 107(49) for ship-borne bilge water separators and alarms.
The new legislation is a far cry from the existing rules and more accurately reflects what is present in bilge water. Also required is a recording function to maintain a record of all discharges for 18 months to allow interrogation by Port State Control inspectors. MEPC 107(49) comes into effect on 1 January 2005 and applies to all new installations of oil content monitors in engine room spaces.
The Rivertrace Smart Cell bilge alarm meets the requirements of MEPC 107(49) by utilising Smart Cell detector array technology developed by Rivertrace Engineering. This technology allows the alarm to analyse the various oil types as required by MEPC 107(49) simultaneously without the need for recalibration.
A manual cell cleaning device is also fitted as standard as cell fouling has been recognised as one of the major factors of monitor malfunction.
