Security buoys Parliament

The perpetual threat of global terrorist activity has generated an urgent need for the protection of people and property everywhere. This has in turn led to the application of innovative and technologically smart equipment designed to enhance security, especially at strategically vulnerable sites.
The Thames riverside perimeter of the UK Houses of Parliament is particularly vulnerable to attack and Leicester-based Vessel Traffic Management Systems Ltd (VTMS) have provided a solution that has been the talk of Westminster since the recent reopening. Nine yellow flashing lights can now be seen floating in the Thames adjacent to the House.
First contacted by government security officials in May this year, VTMS were subsequently contracted to set up a waterborne demarcation zone following further emergency discussions after the July terrorist attacks in London. VTMS supplied the specially designed buoys which now form a barrier to traffic approaching moorings near the Parliament buildings.
Jack Hamilton, founder of VTMS with his son Billy in 2002, speaking of the demarcation barrier said, "It's by no means our biggest contract, but it is certainly our most prestigious."
