Launched at the 2005 Schroders London Boat Show, the code has been produced in partnership with the RYA and the Environment Agency in response to changes in environmental legislation and attitudes towards environmental protection in recent years.

The voluntary code for BMF's 1,500 members provides practical advice to cover the everyday operations and activities of marine companies and organisations. Together with the code, the BMF will publish a number of case studies from BMF and RYA members which demonstrate not only good practice but also aim to help members develop innovative ways of working.
