Fassemer's 'Damerow' Completes Set of Four Fast Police Boats
01 Jul 2005
The Type FPB 25 boats, displacing 60 tons, are for coastal and river based police units in Wolgast in the former GDR state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (MV), which is now the most markedly maritime state in Germany, geographically. The local police units have a 'beat' which stretches from Lubeck to the Polish border and is divided into seven inspection areas.
The 6m wide Damerow , which draws 1.5m, will operate in the east, between Poland and Greifswald. She is outwardly a sister of Warnow delivered in August 2001 and Hoben , handed over in May 2002.
They were both developed from a prototype named Granitz , delivered in 1997.
However Fassmer said each boat had benefited from the latest equipment components over the years, particularly in the radio and nautical sectors.
The yard added that the use of modular construction and standardised components had made it possible to develop and build the boats quickly and design them to feature high-quality technology at low cost. Customer specific modifications could be carried out quickly and economically it said. The boats have hulls of sea water resistant aluminium.
The series was also the first from Fassmer to use MAN engines with completely electronic management integrated into the controls. The boats each have two MAN D2842 LE 410 main engines of 807kW driving two fixed propellers over Reintjes gears and producing up to 24 knots.
Power on board is provided by two Deutz BF 4 M C13 auxiliary diesels, each producing 4kVA, which can also drive an hydraulic bow thruster. A very special hull design guarantees a low resistance and therefore economic operation combined with excellent seakeeping features.
