Macduff Does the Business at Seawork
01 Jun 2005
Macduff Ship Design looks forward to a busy schedule at Seawork 2005 , starting with a contract signing ceremony for their project management and design of a new 13.7m multi-purpose Environmental Launch for the Drogheda Port Company .
The vessel will perform general purpose harbour duties including towage, pilotage and hydro survey whilst also being able to deploy oil pollution control equipment. The contract was won against stiff competition and underlines Macduff's continuing strength in the commercial marketplace, following on from the Aberdeenshire harbour tug SeaHelper , the London University research vessel Aora , and the Shetland Islands Council ferry Filla . Macduff will also be announcing contracts to design two line runner/harbour tugs for ABP Immingham and a buoy tender/harbour workboat for Caernarfon Harbour Trust.
The ABP Immingham boats are part of the 'unbelievable response' Macduff has had to the appearance of Sea Helper onthe March 2005 front cover of Maritime Journal . The ABP boats will be of a similar size to Sea Helper and are based on the same hull design.
These are in addition to the very recent contract award from the Scottish Executive and its Fisheries Research Services department in Aberdeen as project managers for a replacement vessel for the fisheries research vessel Clupea . Macduff has provided outline design and specification for a boat that is a development of the Aora . A design and build contract for the 27m craft is expected to be awarded in the third quarter of this year.
This contract was again won in European open tender against UK and European competition and represents the company's biggest single award since its formation in 1993. Macduff Ship Design's Donald S Cameron told Maritime Journal , 'It's a fantastic contract. I'm really pleased with how our commercial work is taking off.'
