INSS Contract Awarded to iXSEA

iXSEA of France has been awarded a contract by the Marine Institute of Ireland for supplyof navigational and positioning systems for use as part of the Irish National Seabed Survey (INSS) project, currently the worlds largest hydrographic survey venture covering an area of 450,000 square km.  The project is managed by the Geological Survey of Ireland in association with the Institute.

To be installed on the research vessels Celtic Explorer and Celtic Voyager, equipment includes Octans III IMO-certified plug-and-play survey grade gyrocompasses with full motion sensing, said to be capable of locking on to true North in less than one minute without any necessity for GPS positioning.

Also being supplied are calibration-free global acoustic positioning systems (GAPS) which will be used for tracking sidescan sonar tow fish, ROV's, grabs, corers, deep towed bodies and towed camera systems.
