'Echo Surveyor', Fugro's new Hulgin 3000 AUV undergoing launch trials in Norway following acceptance tests at Kongsberg Maritime's Horton Headquarters.
Payload trials, completed early last month in the Norwegian southern offshore sector in the presence of Shell Expro and Statoil representatives, involved full assessment of what is basically an integrated deepwater survey package, with Fugro's dedicated survey vessel, M/V Geo Prospector acting as mother ship.
Echo Surveyor , says Fugro, can be equipped with a range of payload sensors depending on chosen application. For deepwater survey operations, sensors typically comprise a Simrad 200kHz EM2000 multibeam sounder, an Edgetech full spectrum chirp seafloor mapping system consisting of a sidescan sonar and sub-bottom profiler, a conductivity, temperature and depth system, and a tightly coupled inertial navigation unit. The company adds that the AUV is now available for deployment from either one of its own survey or construction support vessels or one of local convenience, depending on project requirements.
