Kort Propulsion Report for Seawork and Celebrate 70th Year
01 Mar 2005
January of this year saw Kent based Seawork exhibitor Kort Propulsion celebrate 70 years of operation in the United Kingdom.
Key personnel Norman Parsons and Malcolm Breeze have worked together since 1970 acquiring a wealth of experience on the power and propulsion requirements of a range of vessels from tugs and workboats through fishing vessels, coasters and inland waterways craft to faster vessels driven by waterjets.
Kort KT200 azimuthing thrusters are now in production and the first two units are performing well on the Hayling Island based Seaboard Guardian. These are powered by Cummins engines rated at 195bhp with cardan shaft to Kort upper gearbox on the 360¼ steerable propulsion units.Kort Tunnel Thrusters are manufactured in the UK and parts are held for assembly even if a completed unit is not available.
The KT200 model has been successfully fitted to several vessels built by the Hepworth Shipyard including Holyhead Towing’s Afon Alaw. Kort continues to offer products from HRP, WEKA, Machine Support, IHC Lagersmit, Fernstrum, and Hercules Hatches as well as specialising in the design and supply of all types of propellers and sterngear.
Kort Nozzles, propellers and sterngear were supplied to VT Halmatic last year for the newbuild workboat Prince Rock for Cattewater Harbour Commissioners. Kort Nozzles, hull connection, rudder trunk, ‘Y’ brackets and the shaft boss were all supplied as a single assembly, saving construction and alignment time for the shipyard.
