Voith Gets AIRborne at Europort

Heidenheim, Germany based Voith Turbo Marine announced a commercial cooperation agreement at Europort Maritime that will see it expand its portfolio in the strategically important market for marine propulsion systems made from CFK. The agreement is with AIR Fertigung-Technologie GmbH & Co KG, which was founded in 1993 by employees of Rostock University and has since presented significant developments in propeller technology for both ship propulsion systems and wind power turbines.

AIR currently produces Contur Propellers made from fibre compound plastics which automatically adjust the propeller pitch independent of the thrust coefficient, so that optimum propulsion efficiency is achieved across the entire load range of the ship. AIR is also working on the innovative drive concepts 'Inline Thruster' and Vector-Prop', which will soon be launched into the market.

AIR’s marine propulsion innovations are expected to complement those of Voith Turbo Marine as they are incorporated into the development and marketing of entire ships’ concepts.
