Port-Net Partners' 'Victory' Dinner
01 Nov 2005
Prettys Solicitors sponsored a dinner last month to commemorate the Battle of Trafalgar which was attended by the Haven Gateway shipping community and visitors from about a dozen overseas European ports.
Held at Hintlesham Hall in Suffolk, the event raised funds for Seafarers UK and the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.
The Haven Gateway ports in the UK include Felixstowe, Harwich, Ipswich and Mistley. The dinner was held midway through the EU Port-Net conference organised in Ipswich to discuss ‘Feeder, Ferry and Shortsea Challenges’. This made it possible for delegates from the ports of Tallinn, Riga, Klaipeda, Szczecin, Elbag, Hamburg, Malta, Hamina, Antwerp and Genoa as well as the European Commission to attend the event. Welcoming his guests, Haven Gateway chairman George Courtauld highlighted the fact that Nelson’s ship Victory had a multi-national crew, many drawn from countries represented by the Port-Net partners.
