Analyser NOx Sox Off Emissions
01 Nov 2005
Set up earlier this year in Gloucestershire UK as a sister company to land based air quality monitoring specialist Enviro Technology Services, ET Marine has had its compact SeaNox nitrogen oxides analyser receive an approval certificate from Det Norske Veritas.
The SeaNox monitor is fully compliant with the new IMO MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI legislation which came into force on 19 May of this year, requiring that all ships over 400 tons or with an engine output exceeding 130kW should monitor NOx emissions with a chemiluminescent type analyser with an NO2 converter.
ET Marine has also launched its own air quality monitor to measure sulphur dioxide (SO2) emitted by ships' engines ahead of a new IMO technical code for the emission of sulphurous gases. The SeaSox analyser uses the Ultra Violet Florescence method to continuously measure emission using a dilution extractive probe. Like the SeaNox analysers, SeaSox is a tough, compact piece of equipment which requires only compressed air for start-up. Sample gas from the ship exhaust is diluted with dry, clean instrument grade compressed air and transported back to the analyser using up to 40m of unheated sample line.
The probe provides the dilution of the sample gas via two temperature controlled critical orifices. A low maintenance pump provides a vacuum. In its most simplistic set-up, four 20mA outputs are provided for connection into the ship’s DCS/PLC/SCADA system.
A range of options are available, including a tamper proof data logging and reporting system giving current and historical data to enable ship owners to fully comply with MARPOL legislation.
