Online Sensors Deliver Root-Cause Monitoring
01 Nov 2005
Littlehampton UK based Kittiwake, which specialises in fuel and lube oil testing in the marine industries, has launched a new range of remote online sensors for lubricant and machine condition monitoring. The ANALEXrs range are from Analex, which Kittiwake acquired in 2003 to enhance their own range of portable low cost lubricant analysis tools.
Kittiwake's managing director Chris Leigh-Jones said, 'Remote online sensor technology is the way forward in the 21st century.
With the emphasis on machine reliability as part of lean manufacturing, the new ANALEXrs range will put lubricant and machine condition information in the hands of the engineer, real-time. The technology would reduce the safety and environmental hazards associated with sampling in many applications, as well as benefiting many remote sites where the logistics of shipping samples is frequently a non-starter.’ The new sensors are suitable for gearbox and engine applications as well as for power generators, compressors and other oil filled heavy plant and equipment.
They promise more accurate trending through more frequent measurements, which can result in a more profitable proactive maintenance strategy. With self-diagnosing digital and analogue outputs, the new sensors can be easily integrated into existing condition monitoring and operating control systems.
They will also be of value to the OEM industry where the focus is to minimise warranty issues, as they go beyond normal protection devices to enhance the root-cause monitoring approach to reliability.
