Navigation System Upgrade for the German Navy

A contract to equip all German Navy ships with a new suite of navigational systems has been awarded to a group of companies led by ET Marinesysteme GmbH as prime contractor, an equal joint venture between EADS and Thales. Commercial and technical evaluation led to final contract for system supply to start later this year and be completed in 2009.

Transas Europe GmbH is part of the winning team, with the navigational suite for some 100 ships to consist of Transas Navi-Sailor 3000 ECDIS, UAIS transponders from Saab Transpondertech AB, and navigational ARPA radars from Sperry Marine BV.

Transas Europe will act as a major system supplier and will deliver its Navi-Sailor 3000 series with specific requested naval features including AIS transponders with secure link capabilities as well as technical support and training. The Navi-Sailor 3000 systems, comprising radar overlay and enhanced AIS control capabilities, will be installed fleet wide in newly designed multi-functional workstation consoles. This will ensure IMO compliance.
