Crane Gain for NME
01 Oct 2005
Norwegian Maritime Equipment (NME) has won a ? 500,000 order to supply ten marine cranes for five new Norwegian coast guard vessels, the first of which is scheduled for launch by the end of this year. The order was received from the Sczecin Ship Repair Yard Gryfia SA in Poland, which is building the vessels for Remoy management AS and Remoy Shipping AS.
All the cranes are similar but five of the units can be adapted for grab operations by combining elements of knuckle and telescopic boom marine cranes. The cranes will have a lifting capacity of 1.3 tons at 10m and 2.8 tons at 5m.
They will be delivered with winches and continuous rotation and slew bearings, which is unusual in that such fitments are usually reserved for bigger machines. NME claims this is a better solution than slewing with hydraulic cylinders.
Operated by remote control, the cranes will be delivered with stainless steel pipes and fittings.
