Sandbanks Causing Problems for Newly Opened Marina
01 Oct 2005
Shifting sands are causing problems for recreational sailors at a recently completed £3.5m West Wales marina where several small craft have run aground this summer.
A sandbank near Burry Port Harbour is growing, narrowing the channel for boats heading out to sea.
The final phase of the Carmarthenshire Council scheme to create berths for 260 commercial craft and pleasure boats at Burry Port was completed this summer.
The project saw the harbour impounded and the introduction of an automatic tidal flap gate, and studies suggest this has affected the flow of the water in the area.
