Van Oord Wins More Work in UK and Russia

Van Oord in the Netherlands has been award the Rochester Riverside Development atRochester in the UK and a major contract in Russia.

The client for the Rochester Riverside project is Medway Council, working in co-operation with the South East of England Development Agency (SEEDA), and the project will be executed in joint venture with Edmund Nuttall. Work will start in midOctober and will take six months to complete.

The project involves supplying of sand for reclamation for a housing, leisure and commercial development. 1.8 million metres of vertical drains will also be installed.

Van Oord will deploy the trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 311 and two vertical drain rigs.

Van Oord has also been awarded the dredging works for the Petrovski Channel, which provides access to the new cruise terminal at St Petersburg, Russia.

The project was due to get under way in mid-October and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2006. It involves dredging of six million cubic metres in the access channel and port basin. The cutter suction dredger Zeeland II will be deployed on the job for some 26 weeks.
