New Order for MJ Cover Tug

Following on from the success and interest generated by the Sea Helper , Aberdeenshire Council's new 8.85m harbour tug built earlier this year by Coastal Marine in Eyemouth (see MJ front cover, March 2005), Macduff Ship Design were commissioned by ABP Immingham to produce a similar variant to suit their application.

The newbuild will be a similar variant of Sea Helper.

The original design was modified and Macduff Ship Design prepared all tender and contract documents, which were circulated to shipyards in the UK and abroad. Sealed bids were received and the order has been placed with Macduff Shipyard.

Designed primarily for line running and fender handling within Immingham docks, the vessel will feature a 170hp Mitsubishi main engine driving a 1,000mm diameter propeller.

Extensive fendering and robust construction will ensure a long service life.

An order for another boat penned by Macduff Ship Design has also been placed with Macduff Shipyard. The owners had first inspected an earlier design by Macduff Ship Design also built at Eyemouth (the Annalie ) and requested a slightly shorter version.

The 12.44m catamaran workboat for Scottish Sea Farms features a beam of 6m and will be able to carry a deck load of 12 tons. Fitted with twin Mermaid Mistral engines rated at 169hp, the new boat, equipped with a 10 t/m deck crane, will be an extremely capable working platform.

For both newbuilds, Macduff Ship Design are providing all the cutting information together with construction plans and full stability booklets.
