Seawork Feedback Inspires Subsea Cleaner

Following a successful visit to Seawork 2005 , Surrey UK based Fraer Pump and Engineering have responded to customer requests and refined two existing products to develop a subsea cleaning system which can be deployed to remove harbour corrosion both above and below water. Many visitors to the stand at Seawork expressed a need for a smaller, more mobile machine that could tackle such tasks within a harbour environment.

Combining the advantages of both the Aquabrade and the Sub-Aquabrade, the new Harbour Aquabrade is designed for lower manufacturing costs and mobility, with flexibility in mind for corrosion removal and cleaning above and below the waterline down to 10m.

Harbour Aquabrade weighs 150kg and is mobile enough to be used from a high-top Transit for enhanced versatility.

Hull cleaning, welding preparation and propeller polishing can be achieved without the need to take vessels into dry dock, considerably reducing the cost and time involved cleaning vessels.

Other shallow water applications such as pipeline repair or cleaning oil pollution residues from harbour pilings and stonework can be carried out with the Harbour Aquabrade.

Company director Mike Dyson said, 'For a long time the benefits of Aquabrade have been recognised in deep water. However, after talking to visitors at Seawork, we realised that there were many small diving operations that could not justify the expense of deep water Aquabrades and who had a need to clean vessels in dry docks and harbours.

'We developed this system for these operations to be able offer an all-round cleaning and corrosion removal service to their clients.'
