Marine Mapping Advances

SeaZone Solutions , the Metoc and Admiralty Holdings joint venture company, is set to launch SeaZone Hydrospatial , which it claims will be the most detailed and comprehensive maps of UK territorial waters containing information never before featured in nautical charts.

Essential for the management of all marine projects, the new digital maps will include a complete wrecks database in addition to detailed information on conservation zones and seabeds as well as other features. For the first time, the company says, project managers and GIS operators will have a complete and authoritative dataset of UK waters at their disposal, enabling them to reduce set-up and running costs while improving project delivery times and results accuracy.

Featuring two scales at 1:25,000 and 1:250,000, the dataset will provide seamless coverage and be particularly easy to use in information systems.

Moreover, the company adds, SeaZone Hydrospatial will extend the UK's Digital National Framework offshore to provide a geographic information base interoperable with Ordnance Surveys OS MasterMap for marine environments and coastal zones.

SeaZone Hydrospatial is due to be formally launched on 8 November at the Association for Geographic Information's annual Conference and Exhibition at London's Chelsea Village.
