Offshore Upsurge at Lerwick

The offshore oil industry has contributed to a 5% increase in the volume of cargo handled at Lerwick Harbour in Shetland over the first half of 2005. The high level of industry activity saw 119 oil related vessels calling at Lerwick, up 30% on the same period in 2004, which had also seen an upturn in offshore traffic.

The port also reports a 37% increase in the number of yachts calling.
