Boskalis Bags Big Offshore Contract

Netherlands based international dredging contractor Royal Boskalis Westminster has won a major contract to construct a gas pipeline in Taiwan. The five month project, which will start next April, has a contract value of some 70m.

The works will involve the construction of a 130km pipeline off the west coast of Taiwan for the Chinese Petroleum Corporation. Boskalis' involvement will include dredging and backfilling trenches in the seabed, covering them with protective rock, and constructed four landfalls along the coast.

Boskalis will deploy both a large cutter suction dredger and a large trailing suction hopper dredger from a global fleet numbering some 300 ships.

The project in Taiwan is one of a series of large scale energy driven projects on the global maritime infrastructure market, driven by population growth, an expanding global economy and new patterns of international energy consumption.
