Dutch Deal for Largest India Built CSD
01 Feb 2006
Amsterdam based VOSTA LMG has received a contract from Indian partner shipyard Mazagon Dock Limited for the supply of an engineering and component package for a 1,500kW cutter suction dredger (csd) which will be the largest such vessel ever to be built at an Indian shipyard. The order for Mazagon Dock is from the Dredging Corporation The large cutter suction dredger is especially designed to cut through rock with an unconfined compressive strength of 40 MPa.
A spud system designed by VOSTA LMG will enable the vessel to advance and reposition itself hydraulically and operate even in swell. A hydraulically tensioned parallel rope guide reduces load peaks to ensure the dredging process is largely independent of swell.
VOSTA LMG will take responsibility for basic engineering, on-site project management of the building, dredging trials and dredge master training. It will also supply the complete cutter ladder assembly, with integrated cutter head drive and submerged dredge pump drive as well as the dredge pump system, which will consist of one submerged dredge pump, one inboard dredge pump and the related drive systems, anchor boom system, all dredging related winch systems, hydraulic plant, dredging related electric plant, dredging automation and the cutting control system.
The VOSTA cutting system will be supplied with two different types of cutter head, one equipped with the VOSTA LMG Type SC40 cutting teeth system for cutting sand, clay and soft rock and the other, featuring the Type D40 cutting teeth system, for cutting hard rock.
The 87.5m LOA dredger will have a beam of 16m, a draft of 4.25m and will be capable of working to depths of 25m. It is due to be handed over to the Dredging Corporation of India in 2007.
