Mammoet Moves Into Salvage

Heavy lift and transport specialist Mammoet has added salvage to its range of activities with the creation of Mammoet Salvage BV.

The Dutch family firm has joined forces with experts from the international salvage industry, including the former director of Wijsmuller Salvage, Chris van der Zwan; Fokko Ringersma, formerly a senior salvage inspector at Wijsmuller Salvage and Smit Salvage; and Arjan Herrebout, salvage inspector at Wijsmuller Salvage and head of the maritime claims department at Raets P&I.

In 2001, Mammoet gained international prestige by participating in the salvage of the Russian nuclear submarine Kursk from the floor of the Barents Sea. The new company intends to build on this experience with an engineering and results based approach to salvage in combination with its partners' maritime experience.

Mammoet Salvage will extend its team of experienced salvage specialists to 25 members and regional offices are being set up in locations around the world, making use of Mammoet's international network and equipment stored at its operations abroad.
