Celebrity Gets 'Millennium' Hang-Ups

Lifeboat and davit supplier Schat-Harding has completed a full replacement of the lifeboat hook release systems on the Celebrity Cruise Line ship Millennium with their own LHR12 package.
The hook system replacement involved removing all fourteen 150 person lifeboats from the ship, removing and replacing the hook systems, then testing each of them under load in the presence of a classification and statutory surveyor.
Schat-Harding has its own patented hydraulic test rig which saved time. Its team of seven engineers completed the job with no delay to the ship during a routine dry dock at Spain's El Ferrol shipyard.
Schat-Harding's head of the passenger ship division, Endre Eidsvik, said, 'These hook release systems are absolutely vital to the safe evacuation of the ship. Yards and owners need to think ahead when specifying life saving equipment as from July it will be obligatory for owners to have lifesaving equipment maintained by the equipment manufacturer.'
Brands now supported by Schat-Harding include Watercraft, Waterman, Fiskars, Davit-Company, William Mills Marine, Schat-Harding, Mulder & Rijke, and the Beiyang Boatbuilding Co.
