UKHO Acquires SevenCs
01 Jan 2006
The UK Hydrographic Office has acquired SevenCs of Hamburg, a leading European developer and supplier of ECDIS software.
Announcing the acquisition in December, the Office's chief executive Dr Wynn Williams said that it would hopefully lead to a lessening of the boundaries between ECDIS data content and the software it runs on. Each part of an ECDIS, he pointed out, has hitherto been developed in isolation, resulting in a limited and somewhat complex system for end users.
Williams also sought to reassure the UKHO's current distribution agents that it was not looking to compete with them.
SevenCs in the meantime will continue to operate from its Hamburg base.
