s UK Port of Felixstowe applied last month for permission under the Transport and Works Act (TWA) to improve the existing single track branch line between Trimley St Mary and Levington.
A TWA order would authorise dualling a 4.25 mile section of the branch line and the construction of three additional sidings within the existing Ipswich marshalling yard.
The improvements would help to remove 500,000 lorries from the roads and could be operational by the end of 2009 if approved.
