  • Modular Lifting for Wave Power Units

    Four huge Pelamis P-750 wave power machines manufactured by Camcal were recently lifted from an Isle of Lewis dockside onto the specialist workboat M/V Sea Power which is operated by prime contractor A2SEA. The Poole UK based engineering firm Modulift Design & Consultancy (MDC) supplied a key component which ensured the safe lifting of the wave power machines. 

  • SOLAS Sets Safe Servicing Standards

    Amendments to Chapter III of SOLAS, which came into force on 1 July 2006, and the proper implementation of MSC1206 (incl MSC1093), a guidance note amplifying SOLAS requirements, together introduce new rules for looking after lifeboats and davits. The new rules and guidance require regular tests and inspections of lifeboats, release gear and davit winches on all SOLAS ships, and specify what these tests should be and who should do them.

The old Poole Belle spent its life taking holiday makers around Poole Harbour, Bournemouth Bay and the Solent. Following a major refit, the vessel now has a new name, a new home and new engines.

    Hamilton Jet (UK) Ltd used the occasion of Seawork 2006 to launch their new blue ARROW waterjet control system, which is suitable for use with twin jet installations on a wide range of high speed workboats, patrol boats, crew boats, fireboats, landing barges and ferries. The system is suitable for monohulls or catamarans of approximately 8 to 16m length and can accommodate power outputs ranging from 270 to 1,340hp.

    Construction of the Rye Fish Market Quay, situated on the western bank of the tidal River Rother near Rye, is now complete. Commissioned by the Environment Agency, designed by Atkins and constructed by Jackson Civil Engineering, the £4.7m project is one of only 11 registered fish landing sites in England and Wales.

VTMS will service and maintain the buoys and beacons of Forth Ports PLC in the rivers Forth and Tay over a five year period. A similar contract has been signed with Associated British Ports to service and maintain their buoys in the South Wales ports of Newport, Cardiff, Barry, Port Talbot and Swansea.

The Southampton UK based design office for innovative, high speed ships and boats is currently working on car ferries, a 50 knot naval research craft, and several vessels based on its patented Pentamaran design.

Like its predecessor, the new addition will work alongside the port's larger tug Kerbister that has been in service in the port since 1990.
