Non-Slip Flight Deck Fit for The Queen
01 Jun 2006
When it was determined that the Trinity House flagship THV Patricia would lead the Royal Squadron through the review lines at Trafalgar Day celebrations in the Solent last autumn, some sprucing up was invariably in order.
It is a long held tradition dating back to King William III in 1688 that the Elder Brethren, or Directors of Trinity House escort the Sovereign at sea.
With HM The Queen reviewing the fleet that day, the 2,500 ton purpose built aids to navigation tender had a high profile role to play.
Seawork exhibitor Fibreglass Grating was called upon to install a non-slip aft deck helicopter pad onboard Patricia.
The contract called for a supply of 4.8mm thickness Fibreglass Solid Plate in white, green and yellow, cut into the shape of a helipad lining area. The Fibreglass Solid Plate has an extremely durable anti-slip gritted surface which has greatly improved safety standards on board the vessel.
Among the products on show at Seawork will be Fibreglass Grating's new anti-slip gritted surface for their range of flooring panels. Angular quartz grit is embedded into the top surface during the manufacturing process, resulting in an extremely hard wearing, durable, chemical resistant finish.
Fibreglass Grating has one of the highest levels of slip resistance ever measured for a walking surface, especially in wet, oily and icy work areas.
The maintenance free products are easily cut on site and weigh 70% less than steel grating.
The company also supplies mini-mesh grating, covered grating and structural panels for bridging larger spans along with a full range of heavy duty 316 stainless steel hold-down clips, panel to panel joining clamps, and other hold-down clamp systems.
