Goodchild Building Dover's New Pilot Launch

Aqua-Star Ltd of Guernsey in the Channel Islands has produced a MK3 version of their proven hull form which has exceptional sea keeping qualities. The main departure from earlier Nelson hulls is that the new Aqua-Star MK3 has a moulded chine beneath the waterline that provides greater dynamic stabilising and a dryer ride.

A well rounded and balanced transom proves its worth when alongside and manoeuvring off larger ships. Another benefit of the new hull form is its ability to reduce fuel consumption by up to 20%.

The GRP hull is a one piece moulding, built using construction techniques which result in a particularly stiff and tough boat.

The hull and superstructure are moulded in accordance with Lloyds Register of Shipping SSC rules as applied to Pilot Vessels and construction met the requirements of the MCA Harmonised Workboat Code of Practice for Pilot Vessels category 3.

The wheelhouse and accommodation is custom designed and built by Goodchild Marine to meet the owner's exact requirements. The helm position is to port with full engine controls and instrumentation, and a crew seat to starboard. Five KAB 301K adjustable suspension seats with armrests and lap belts are mounted on base units that form lockers. There is a bench seat to port, also with lap belts.

Access from the aft deck is via a spray tight door with a window, fitted centrally in the aft bulkhead.

Power will be provided by twin Scania DI9 46M marine diesels rated at 420bhp and coupled to a Twin Disc MGX5114A close coupled, down angle Quick Shift marine gearbox and a Twin Disc electronic control system. This package promises a maximum speed in trials condition (full fuel and water and a crew of six) of 22/23 knots.
