BMF 'Strongly Opposed' to Dramatic Increase in Dredging Costs

The British Marine Federation (BMF) says the Government's Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is inviting comments on proposals to introduce changes to the Food and Environment Protection Act (FEPA) 1985 fee charging system and licensing process by Wednesday 3 May 2006, and says that it is 'strongly opposed' to the concept.
New Aggregates Zoning Information Available

The British Marine Aggregate Producers Association (BMAPA) and The Crown Estate have released the first set of zoning information for 2006. The seventh update since this initiative commenced, it confirms their guarantee to provide more detailed information on the zoning of marine aggregate licence areas located around the coastline of England and Wales.

The future of Chichester Harbour, the largest purely recreational harbour in the UK in terms of its size, number of vessels and range of boating activity could be in doubt if a long term plan is not put in place to prevent continued erosion of the feature known as East Head, which protects the harbour and the marine businesses within it from the sea.
Commission Denies Deficiencies in Environmental Legislation.

Speakers at the first GreenPort Conference in Antwerp in February had a clash of opinion as to whether European environmental legislation, and in particular the Habitats and Water Framework Directives, has inherent deficiencies causing bottlenecks for port development.
