Recover-Reduce-Recycle at Seawork International 2006
01 Mar 2006
H4 Marine Ltd returns to Seawork with another new product which could rival the popularity of the quicKutter rope and debris cutter which made its debut at Seawork 2004.
A flood of orders followed and the success continues. H4 Marine's quicKutters could be seen at this year's London Boat Show fitted by the propellers of the RNLI's first Tamar class lifeboat.
In time for Seawork 2006, H4 Marine has been appointed UK marine distributors for Recoverit, a revolutionary new re-useable oil recovery system. The company will be demonstrating Recoverit at Seawork 2006 and will support all applications of the product within Europe until other agents can be appointed.
Calling itself the world's first truly environmentally friendly solution for oil and hydrocarbon pollution, Recoverit comes as a white or speckled granule that can adsorb all types of oils and hydrocarbons. Adsorption is a process whereby material (contained in a contacting fluid) interacts by physical forces (dispersive, polar or ionic) with a surface, thereby, causing a layer (or layers) of the material to adhere to that surface.
When attached to oil it becomes an easily handled glutinous gel which floats on water, adsorbing up to ten times its own weight, of which less than 0.1% will be water. One kilo of Recoverit can pick up from 100 to 600 litres of oil through re-use.
The product can be used on water, sand, soil and in the atmosphere. Once the hydrocarbon has been captured by Recoverit, hazardous fumes are eliminated and, as it is non-flammable, the risk of ignition is greatly reduced when it is used to clean up fuel spills.
The Australian patented product's light weight makes it well suited for air transport, bringing an effective response rapidly to distant spill incidents.
Recoverit is easily separated from oil it has recovered when placed in a high speed centrifuge.
The Recoverit is returned to its original form ready for re-use and the recovered oil can be sold to an oil recycler for processing into a useable product such as bio-diesel.
In addition to recycling the spilled oil, Recoverit does not become toxic waste like other oil spill clean-up products which are not re-useable. And since Recoverit does not adsorb water, it remains afloat and is totally unaffected by rain.
Recoverit pillows can be embedded within drains to catch the oil as the water flows past. One final green credential is that Recoverit is manufactured from recycled materials, making it one of the few products on he market derived from one recycling process which expedites another recycling process.
