Bakker Sliedrecht Drives Back to SMM

Dutch marine electrical engineering specialist Bakker Sliedrecht returns to Hamburg for SMM 2006 and will be showing, amongst other things, its new ultra-compact direct water cooled frequency drives, a new series of totally enclosed, modular units which have been improved by way of smaller dimensions, serviceability, and an optimised cooling system incorporating synthetic main cooling.

Bakker Sliedrecht has developed a diesel-electric propulsion concept for two Swedish Coastguard patrol vessels being built by Damen Shipyards.

Bakker Sliedrecht is well known for its many electrical installations on board vessels of the Dutch and Belgian based dredging fleets of the world's major international contractors.

These vessels operate in the harshest of marine environments and their operators count on the utmost reliability to ensure optimal productivity and profit, so their continuing return to Bakker Sliedrecht is high praise indeed.

In Singapore the former cutter suction dredger Oranje is being rebuilt and will appropriately renamed Phoenix.

Engineering and the delivery of drive systems, automation and cabling is being executed under the supervision of Bakker Sliedrecht. The scope of works includes new 1,650kW water cooled frequency drives, two 3,500kVa alternators and two more of 1,800kVa, plus winch motors of 850kW, 475kW, 250kW and 37kW.

At the Xinhe Shipyard at Tianjin, Bakker Sliedrecht is providing electrical system packages, including new compact water cooled frequency drives for three split barges, two cutter suction dredgers and one trailing suction hopper dredger belonging to Belgian dredging giant Jan De Nul.

Dutch major Royal Boskalis Westminster is modifying the dredge pump and cutter for its cutter suction dredger Jokra.

Bakker Sliedrecht will deliver a new submersible dredge pump drive of 1,333kW with a 1,800kVa alternator and a 880kW cutter motor with frequency converter and new drive systems.

The scope of Bakker Sliedrecht's activities is by no means limited to dredgers.

The company has developed a diesel-electric propulsion concept for two Swedish Coastguard patrol vessels being built by Damen Shipyards at Galati in Romania and will supply the electrical installation for two Jumbo Shipping heavy lift vessels being built at the same facility. Two survey vessels for the Port of Rotterdam will receive complete Bakker Sliedrecht electrical installations, including the Bakker BIMAC alarm monitoring and control system.
