Off the Shelf GMDSS System Monitors State of Batteries

Kent UK based Energy Solutions has developed a new product for commercial shipping that works in conjunction with the core Victron product line. Their latest product, the RSM09A System Monitor, works with a standard battery charger to be used on vessels that require Global Marine Distress and Safety Systems.
Whether the application is a newbuild or a refit, the RSM09A allows shipbuilders and engineers to meet the latest SOLAS regulations with off the shelf equipment. Essential communications systems require two sources of power, a battery charger and an emergency battery back-up. The RSM09A System Monitor is able to monitor the main source of power and indicate when the vessel is running on back-up.
The System Monitor is a custom made battery and charging system monitor that links to a Victron battery charger. The unit allows remote monitoring of the Skylla TG charger. In normal operation, it displays the battery voltage and charging current together with float or boost charge status.
In the event of a charger failure, it continues to monitor the battery. It gives audible and visual warnings of the charger failure and again if the battery then discharges to the low battery voltage level.
