Revived SASMEX Spotlights Maritime Safety
01 Apr 2007
The Safety at Sea Marine Equipment Exhibition (SASMEX) returns to familiar haunts in Brighton UK this month.
The revival of the once popular event comes after ownership of Safety at Sea International magazine passed to dedicated marine information publisher Lloyd’s Register-Fairplay.
‘Since we acquired Safety at Sea International in 2004, I have lost count of the number of people who have asked me whether we were going to revive SASMEX, said managing editor Paul Gunton. ‘It was never a question of whether we would revive it, it was a matter of when we would do it.’
The relaunched exhibition is a consequence of Lloyd’s Register-Fairplay forming a new events division. SASMEX returns to its former venue on the Brighton seafront in what is now called the Hilton Brighton Metropole hotel. It will be a focused two day event on 25 and 25 April, combining an international exhibition with a variety of topical seminars aimed at bringing together all sides of the safety debate, including manufacturers, distributors, safety managers, purchasers and legislators. The seminar programme has been drawn up in consultation with major maritime organisations and companies to ensure the industry’s needs are fully taken account of and to help produce a beneficial and cost effective event for all sectors. Seminar timings are arranged to allow delegates ample time to visit the exhibition, which remains free of charge to industry visitors.
The inaugural Safety at Sea International Awards Dinner takes place in the Metropole on the evening of 24 April. Designed to celebrate and recognise the vital role that safety managers and manufacturers play in saving and protecting life at sea, the Awards identify standards of excellence across the international maritime safety market and will be presented for categories including Equipment, Systems, Management/Operations, and Training.
