Timber Contract Lifts King’s Lynn

Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of King’s Lynn has been handling substantial volumes of forest products following the signing of a one year term agreement with Swedish timber company Vida Wood AB to handle approximately 50,000m3 of carcassing timber a year from Halmstad in Sweden.

UKHMA Autumn Seminar

The new Shipping Minister, Jim Fitzpatrick, has accepted an invitation to attend the Seminar and, although not expected to speak at length, he may give a brief introduction to his department's policy for the ports sector.

Orders Up for Anti-Pollution Boats

A number of coastal authorities are specifying Rolls-Royce ship designs and equipment for coastguard and anti-pollution vessels. The latest contract to be signed covers the design and equipment for a vessel ordered for the Icelandic coastguard, Landhelgisgæsla Islands.

Marseille Makes Big Box Plans

The Port of Marseille Authority (PMA) is planning to develop two more new container terminals at Fos, its base for east-west trades, with a combined capacity of two million teu per year. The PMA’s recent board meeting approved the launch of technical and financial feasibility studies, which are due to be presented in October.
