Boskalis and partners to build Khalifa Port

Royal Boskalis Westminster has received a letter of intent from Abu Dhabi Ports Company for the first construction phase of the new offshore Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi.

Boskalis will execute the project in partnership with its subsidiary, Archirodon, and the Korean company Hyundai. The contract is worth approximately € 1.1bn, with the net share of Boskalis amounting to approximately € 670m. 

The project will be executed in four and a half years from this month onwards. The assignment includes dredging an entrance channel and a harbour basin, the reclamation of a harbour island and land for wharfs, the construction of breakwaters as well as a causeway to the island including a bridge. In addition, a jetty and quay walls will be built for container handling and a new aluminium smelter.

A total of 44m m³ of material will be dredged, with Boskalis deploying equipment that includes a number of large cutter suction dredgers and backhoes, as well as a medium-sized hopper dredger.

Khalifa Port will be a major harbour, handling containers, bulk goods and general freight.
