€310m for EU Shortsea

The UK’ Department for Transport has invited bids for a share of some €310m to be available across Europe up to 2012 from the European Union’s Motorways of the Sea programme.
The funds will contribute up to 30% of total costs for infrastructure projects in ports or which provide land or sea access to ports. The Motorways of the Sea concept encourages the development of multimodal freight transport services which take lorries off Europe’s overcrowded roads.
