The French Port of Marseilles was closing on the one million TEU mark for 2007 as the year ended, with throughput reaching 826,000 units to the end of October.
Box tonnage up by 6.9% to 8.37m tons helped general cargo to a 5.1% improvement to 14.48m tons, which also included a 6% rise in ro-ro traffic to 3.65m tons. The Port of Marseilles Authority has set up a simulator based international training centre at Fos for crane and equipment operators.
