Finns Land Landing Craft Contract

Marine Alutech of Finland has signed a contract with Geliga Slipway Sdn Bhd of Malaysia for supplying the design and parts for ten Watercat M14 high performance landing craft for the Royal Malaysian Police.

. The boats will be delivered next year and into early 2009.

The Watercat M14 is an aluminium built deep 'V' monohull driven by twin Caterpillar C12s powering Rolls-Royce FF 410S waterjets through ZF 325 gearboxes. The craft measures 14.2m LOA with a beam of 4m and a draft of only 0.8m. The wheelhouse is situated atop the engine room, with cargo hold and passenger compartment situated forward. Crewed by one or two persons, the craft will carry 16 passengers at speeds above 40 knots.

The boat is a tropicalised sister design to the Watercat M12, which was specially designed for the Finnish Navy. The design criteria for this class of boat requires speed, ruggedness and versatility as stipulated by the Finnish Navy, which expects to deploy the craft in the most arduous of conditions.
